Day 1. Transfer to Fort Portal and evening walk
Upon arrival at the airport or pick up at your hotel, meet the safari guide of Mugenyi Eco-Tours who will brief you about the safari. Later, embark on a scenic drive to Fort Portal via Mityana Mubende, the main town in the Toro region of western Uganda, passing through the charming towns of Mityana and Mubende. Along the way, we’ll take a break to stretch our legs and enjoy some refreshments and snacks.
Did you know? Fort Portal is strategically located at the foot of the Rwenzori Mountains, making it a convenient base for exploring the surrounding area. We’ll check into our lodge and enjoy a delicious lunch. In the afternoon, we’ll take a leisurely walk to the viewpoint “Top of the World”, where we’ll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views. We will then return to the lodge for a well-deserved rest.
Day 2. Semuliki hot spring and amabere cave
Enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, both of which Uganda is renowned for. Then, we’ll embark on our adventure to Semuliki National Park. We’ll explore the park’s enchanting forests, including the famous Sempaya Hot Springs.
Explore the hot springs and discover their natural medicinal benefits. This unique ecosystem is home to primates like the red-tailed monkey and boasts over 300 bird species. After a delicious lunch at the lodge, we’ll venture into the nearby community for a fascinating walk among the area’s distinctive rock formations. A mysterious underground adventure unveils the mystery of the Amabere Caves, a hidden gem near Fort Portal. These limestone caves, known locally as “breasts of the motherland,” are home to a diverse array of wildlife, particularly bats that have made their roosts within the cavernous formations. We will conclude our day with dinner and an overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 3. Embark on a scenic drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park
After a nourishing breakfast, we’ll have a scenic drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, winding our way through the foothills of the majestic Rwenzori Mountains. Upon arrival, we’ll enjoy a delicious lunch at our lodge before venturing out for an afternoon game drive in the northern part of the park. This renowned park is famous for its tree-climbing lions, but you can also expect to see elephants, buffaloes, and a variety of other fascinating wildlife. As Uganda’s most visited national park, Queen Elizabeth boasts exceptional biodiversity, making it a must-see destination.
Day 4. Twin Lakes walk, Kazinga Channel cruise and journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Fuel your morning with a refreshing cup of coffee before embarking on a captivating Twin Lakes Walk through a local community. Immerse yourself in the daily life of the residents as you learn about their traditional farming practices and witness the crops they cultivate.
In the afternoon, we’ll hop on a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, a scenic waterway teeming with wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled for hippos basking in the sun, crocodiles lurking in the water, and a diverse array of birdlife soaring overhead. After enjoying the beauty of the channel, we will take a scenic drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, passing through charming towns that provide a glimpse into Ugandan life. We will end our day with a delicious dinner and a comfortable night’s rest at our lodge.
Day 5. Gorilla trekking and community outreach experience
Start your day with a Gorilla trekking adventure after a satisfying breakfast. We’ll head to the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park headquarters for a comprehensive briefing on gorilla trekking. Once we’re prepared, we’ll venture into the lush forest, carefully following our experienced guides. Upon encountering a gorilla family, we’ll have the incredible opportunity to observe these magnificent creatures for an hour. After a memorable encounter, we’ll return to the lodge for a well-deserved lunch. In the afternoon, we’ll immerse ourselves in the local culture with a captivating Batwa community walk. We’ll conclude our day with dinner and a comfortable overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 6. Traveling back to Kampala
Embark on a scenic journey after a hearty breakfast. We´ll venture on our journey to Kampala. Our route will take us along the scenic Mbarara road, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. We’ll take a break en route to savor a refreshing local lunch, immersing ourselves in the authentic flavors of Ugandan cuisine. Arriving in Kampala in the evening, our memorable safari will come to an end here.
